What was I doing before Do Something Different?

Thinking instead of doing, mainly, although I have been an academic with a business mind all my adult life.  This has involved all sorts of things from setting up a management centre in Romania, to being amongst the first (as Dean of a Business School) to franchise degrees done on Chinese soil, to founding FIT Science and then Do Something Different.

 

Why did I join?

We set up the company to make a difference in the world, to help people have better, more productive, socially responsible lives they can take responsibility for.

 

What do I do?

I am constantly trying to think of refinements to the Do Something Different theory and techniques and to help make these work. I also do research and write. And I think too much.

 

What do I most want to change in the world?

Much that passes for education, training and behaviour change generally has almost no transformational power. The Thinking Trap is very powerful and deceives. I want to give Doing more of the action…

 

What do I most want to change about me?

I am always trying to be God in my own universe, and want to be able to see other peoples’ world’s more clearly…

Professor Ben (C) Fletcher

 

Ben (C) Fletcher is a Director of Do Something Different Ltd. which he co-founded in 2010. He takes a key role in the development of Do Something Different techniques and tools, as well as theory and research. He is also Professor of Occupational, Organizational and Health Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. He is a Practitioner Occupational Psychologist, a Practitioner Health Psychologist and a Chartered Occupational, Health Psychologist and Scientist. Ben did his doctorate in Experimental Psychology at Oxford University. He began his academic career at the Medical Research Council unit at Sheffield University in the UK, and has been Head of the Psychology Department twice, and Dean of the University of Hertfordshire Business School for 6 years before becoming more interested in applying his research knowledge. The Business School was transformed under his leadership. During this time he has also been a Professor in Romania, and more recently was also a Professor in the Fashion Design Department of Istanbul Bilgi University until 2014. He has been Director of several companies and was Chairman of Elstree Studios Ltd for several years. He was made a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in 2007.

 

Ben has written a nine books including Flex: Do Something Different and has

published extensively in academic journals. He is also the founder of FIT Science. He is passionate that research should make a difference in the world and still vividly remembers his eureka moment when Do Something Different was born as an idea. He is passionate about the Do Something Different approach that he believes will transform the world of corporate, public health and individual behaviour change. He thinks that transformation in lives is more useful for society than much that passes for education and is driven by the impact his scientific work has on improving people’s lives and their well-being.
